DON'T DRINK & DRIVE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

For too many people, the Holiday Season includes drinking and driving--whether its leaving an office Christmas party or a New Year's Eve celebration or just having too many cocktails with friends.  The holidays offer more opportunities for this dangerous behavior.  The risk is too great.  Don't drink and drive.

The Texas Department of Transportation estimates there will be 27,000 car wrecks in Texas in December alone, injuring 20,000 people and resulting in 335 deaths.  Almost half of those vehicle crash deaths will involve a driver who was drinking.  Texas continnues to lead the nation in alcohol related traffic fatalities.  Texas had 1,485 alcohol-related vehicle fatalities in 2007.

According to TXDOT, bail, fines, court costs, attorney fees, insurance rate hikes, surcharges to keep the driver’s license and probation costs aren’t on anyone’s wish list. A DWI arrest and conviction can run anywhere from $5,000 to $24,000 or more.  That's a lot of money for a night of "fun," especially when you consider that a taxi cab ride would probably cost less than $20.

Be safe this Holiday Season.  Don't hurt yourself or someone else.  Don't drink and drive.
